The weather is getting sunnier and everything feels dreamier with summer around the corner. This is the season to physically document milestones, families, and moments in a way that feels timeless. Did you know we have two amazing photographers right in our downtown neighborhood?
Sarah Hogan, of Hogan’s Photography, specializes in newborn, children, family, and senior photos. She moved into her studio at 165 W Center Street, where she frequently photographs clients (of all ages).
“Since moving into my new studio space downtown, I have been able to significantly grow my photography business,” Sarah said. “The additional square footage allows for much larger sets and groups, enabling me to accommodate full baseball, softball, and soccer teams for the first time. Additionally, my mini-session sets are now more elaborate, as I can maintain multiple setups simultaneously. Clients compliment the new space all the time.”
Gretchen Joliff, photographer and owner of Days Gone By Studio, had a different vision for her creative outlet.
“When I first dreamed of opening a photography studio in Marion, I imagined a warm, welcoming space where photographers could create beautiful images and lasting memories,” Gretchen shared. “Not just for my own clients- but for other photographers who were just starting out and could access a reliable, professional space without the cost and commitment of a full-time studio. I wanted them to feel comfortable and creative there.”

The kids are wrapping up school, the days are getting longer, and the sun is actually showing up. It’s summertime. If you haven’t gotten the chance to enjoy lunch or dinner at one of the awesome downtown patios or sidewalk tables, or eaten Whit’s with your family as the sun drops behind the downtown buildings, I highly recommend it!
One friend said it best on social media recently, “How lucky are we to have the food choices we have in Marion now?! Literally anything you could want is here.” Mind you, this is coming from someone who lives on the southern end of the county and could just as quickly go to Delaware as downtown Marion. But instead, he chooses to bring his family and friends here! I don’t want to put words in his mouth, but I imagine it’s because there is more parking (that is FREE), unique and plentiful options, he knows many of the business owners and their families personally, and he is proud because THIS is his hometown, and he wants to support it.
I might be biased, but I completely agree. From great coffee, to BBQ, to burgers, soul food, tacos, gyros, wings, empanadas, and more…we truly have great food options, unique boutique retail experiences, fun gathering spaces and watering holes, and entertainment options for couples, families, and friends. I have a feeling this is going to be an exciting summer downtown, and I hope to see you here!
