Lazeez had their Soft Opening Tuesday, which of course I participated in. Delicious and fresh food, this is a spot I’ll frequent. We’re so excited to diversify the food options downtown and a healthy fast casual Mediterranean spot is exactly what we needed! Come check out their restaurant this weekend and support them as they embark on their journey in Marion. You don’t want to miss out on these flavors!

While I was in Dublin last week, I stood inside the Guinness Storehouse and looked down through a glass floor at the original lease Arthur Guinness signed on December 31, 1759. He was 34 years old when he committed to that brewery on St. James’s Gate for an annual rent of £45. The term of the lease? Nine thousand years. If that’s not belief, I don’t know what is.
If you’ve never heard the story, the reason he started brewing in the first place was that he was shaped by John Wesley’s teaching on social justice and the charge to earn, save, and give all you can. Beer was his vehicle for doing good while doing well…less intoxicating than gin and safer than water of the day. Did it seem crazy to people around him? Probably.
Nobody signs a 9,000-year lease because the numbers make sense on paper. You sign it because you can see something others can’t yet. You sign it because the vision is bigger than the doubt. I thought about that standing in Dublin, and I thought about it again on the flight home. We are continuing to build some special things with some awesome people here in Marion. Lazeez Grill opens its doors today, with two more restaurants coming behind it. The block is alive in a way it hasn’t been in a long time, and we are just getting started!
You don’t have to wait for the finished product to be part of this story. Come have dinner. Walk the downtown. Hang out in the park. Support our local shops and venues. Bring someone who’s never been. Every time you show up, you’re casting a vote for what downtown Marion can be. We believe in this place. We’d love for you to come see it.
